It is not possible to find out the exact date of the construction of fortification walls and towers. It is believed that the first fortress was built by the Arabs 2000 years ago, then in 1588 the Portuguese rebuilt it, who arrived on the island in search of new trade opportunities, in the 17th century the Dutch pressed them to declare Sri Lanka their colony. A little more than 3,000 residents constantly live in the town, in the summer months the number of people increases several times due to the influx of tourists. They come to sunbathe on the luxurious golden beaches, swim in the warm Tyrrhenian Sea and enjoy the enchanting scenery. Beauty in the city is not inferior to natural beauty. Sperlonga architecture is so similar to the Mediterranean. White buildings shine against a piercing blue sky, narrow streets invite for long walks along old houses with thick shutters. Clay pots with vibrant colors complete the picture.
