Two blue lagoons of Cyprus
Hospitable Cyprus is famous for its stunning nature. Chamber bays and the picturesque beaches surrounding them make you forget about gray cities and endless problems. Among the many options for coastal recreation, two pearls stand out – these are the Blue Lagoon. One is located near the resort of Ayia Napa, it is always crowded here. The second, more chamber and secluded, lies on the Akamas Peninsula, near the city of Polis. Natural sights on the opposite ends of the island are shared by about 200 km. The journey from one to another by car takes approximately 4 hours.
BLUE LAGOON IN Ayia Napa
Not far from Cape Greco is one of the main points of attraction of the resort – the Blue Lagoon. It attracts clear water of piercing blue color. The hue of the sea varies depending on the time of day and weather. On a sunny day, the sea turns to turquoise, and the waves shimmer like the brink of a diamond. At sunset, or when the sky is covered with clouds, the waters acquire a saturated sapphire color.
Bizarre cliffs form the surrounding landscape. On ledges and cliffs, observation platforms are equipped. They often hold wedding ceremonies or arrange photo shoots, the frames are spectacular.
Snorkeling and diving
They come to the Blue Lagoon to get acquainted with marine life. This can be done “lightly” by capturing a flipper and mask. Multi-colored fish, the smallest crustaceans and other representatives of the ichthyofauna are not afraid of bathers and allow you to see yourself in clear water in detail.
The area is replete with grottoes and underwater caves. Some are completely filled with water, it is recommended to visit them exclusively accompanied by an instructor, others only half. They are not very deep, so you can make a “speleological” tour on your own.
The inhabitants of Cyprus acted very wisely, without spoiling the coastline with countless cafes, changing cabins and other tourist infrastructure. Wild beaches allow you to experience the splendor of the nature of the ancient island.
The Blue Lagoon in Ayia Napa is in great demand. In the bay on the roads there are always a lot of boats. The travel program from different operators does not differ in originality.
A group tour lasts about 5 hours. It includes not only a voyage to the shores of the bay, but also visits to other interesting places. Typically, this is a swimming stop in Connos Bay, Green Lagoon, and only then in the Blue Lagoon. After water treatments, tourists are served a budget lunch consisting of Cypriot specialties. Then you will cruise to the shores of Famagusta and an overview of its attractions. In the evening, tourists return to the port, from where the bus takes them to hotels. Tours are available not only from Ayia Napa, but also from Pernera, Protaras, Paralimni and other nearby cities. Price – within 50 € per person.
How to get to the Blue Lagoon in Ayia Napa on your own
If you are a fan of hiking, take the Ayia Napa Protaras bus. Exit should be at the stop Cavo Greco and overcome the rest of the way on foot. Ticket price – 2 €.
On a rented car, the journey will be less tiring. Pointers will not let you get lost. You won’t be able to drive close to the beach, you will have to leave the car parked at the cape.
Going to the Blue Lagoon on your own, stock up on water and do not forget to wear comfortable shoes.
BLUE LAGOON ON THE AKAMAS PENINSULA
The local waters and landscapes have more than once become the backdrop for shooting commercials. Crystal clear sea invites you to plunge into the midday heat. The bottom relief is clearly visible, so you should take fins and a mask for snorkeling.
The Blue Lagoon is located on the territory of the reserve, so there are no attributes of a comfortable stay on the shore. Sun beds and umbrellas would only spoil the landscape. The sea of incredible blue, olive trees and cliffs burnt by the sun – these types are unlikely to leave anyone indifferent.
Many travel agencies offer group excursions to the Blue Lagoon, along with visits to other places. The trip begins with a visit to the banana plantations, then an examination of the caves, the winery, the baths of Aphrodite, and only then the ship floats into the lagoon. The sequence of sightseeing may vary, but there is no list of them. The voyage lasts 8 hours. Price within 40 € per person. This price includes fruits, soft drinks, as well as the use of fins and masks. Lunch is paid separately. Such excursions start from Paphos or Polis.
